Dear colleagues,
The Social Policy Association has today published a report into the impacts of the Coalition Government's spending review across key areas of the welfare state. As well as brief, in-depth analyses of the implications for specific policies and programmes, the report also:
- Considers the implications for the fundamental principles underpinning the welfare state - fairness, social justice and the reduction of social, economic and spatial inequalities.
- Examines the specific impacts on Scotland and Northern Ireland in the context of devolution.
- Proposes alternative measures for addressing the fiscal deficit and a new debate that emphasises social as much as economic policy goals.
The report is available to download from the SPA website www.social-policy.org.uk
Please feel free to alert colleagues and anyone else you think might be interested in the report. The SPA is a professional association which links academics who teach and research in higher education, post-graduate researchers, policy-makers and others. Most of our 500-plus members are active teachers and researchers in social policy and applied social science within the UK. We are therefore well-placed to offer expert comment and analysis of current social policy developments.
Best wishes,
Adam Whitworth
