I recently received the following request from Colin Hambrook, editor of Disability Arts Online.
I also wondered if you can help me with an enquiry I'm making? I am working with a disabled artist who is interested in developing ideas around the symbolism of 'the step' - as a metaphor - and wondered if you could know of any academic references to the notion of 'the step' as a barrier to equality?
It's about how accepted terminology affects unspoken perceptions - and how 'the step' is used linguistically as a physical and psychologically impediment.
be very grateful if you could help?
If anybody on this list can provide suggestions, on or off list as appropriate, I'll be happy to forward them to Colin.
Best wishes
Allan Sutherland
