I have been asked by Rosemary Melling, an alumna of Newnham College, for
help in finding some voluntary archive help for the Guildford Institute.
This is her message:
HELP NEEDED TO BRING A HISTORIC COLLECTION TO LIFE! The Guildford Institute
Library first opened its doors in 1834, and is a member of the Association
of Independent Libraries. In addition to a modern lending section, it holds
historic collections, in particular local history books, ephemera,
photographs, prints and drawings relating to the history, topography and
antiquities of Guildford and Surrey. The Institute is keen to publicise the
historic collections and increase their accessibility and usage. We are
looking for a volunteer who will take an overview of the historic
collections, including their conservation and cataloguing and who will
identify, prioritise and co-ordinate projects which can be undertaken by
volunteers. For further information, please contact Rosemary Melling at
