Dear friends and colleagues,
I would like to invite you to consider submitting proposals for papers
or panels to the Critical Theory and Discourse on Religion Group for
this year’s annual meeting of the the American Academy of Religion in
San Francisco, California on November 19-21, 2011.
The CTDR group provides an international and interdisciplinary forum
for scholars of religion to examine and question the disciplinary
presuppositions of this field of study. It offers a venue for ongoing
theoretical and methodological work in conversation with concrete
ethnographic and historical case studies.
The work of this program unit is placed under three main rubrics:
1. The critical investigation of the categories generated and employed
by the discourses on religion,
2. The analysis of new and neglected theorists and works central to
the critical study of religion,
3 Theoretically informed examination of elided and often neglected
themes in religious studies.
The topics for the Call for Paper of the CTDR group for 2011 are:
1. Blasphemy and Cursing,
2. Heresy in Islam,
3. Ethics of Ethnographic Fieldwork in Religion,
4. The 'Frankfurt School' and its Diversity of Approaches to Religion,
5. Methodological and Ideological Foundations of the Cognitive Theory
of Religion.
We strongly encourage the submission of panel proposals relevant to
the themes and issues indicated above. Please submit a paper
description and a short abstract through the OP3 System to assure a
blind review process. For further details and the instructions for the
submission of paper or panel proposals, please see also:
http://www.aarweb.org/Meetings/Annual_Meeting/Current_Meeting/default.asp.
The deadline is March 1, 2011, 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
We would appreciate your distributing this call for papers and
prearranged panels to colleagues or graduate students who might be
interested. Thank you.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, Jorunn
