SPOTLIGHT: REJECTING REPEAL
The Senate yesterday voted 47-51 to reject House-approved legislation
that would have repealed the federal health reform law. All 47
Republicans voted for the measure, but they were 13 votes shy of the
60-vote threshold needed for the proposal to move forward. Senate
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) introduced the repeal measure as
an amendment to a Federal Aviation Administration funding bill.
Following the vote, Republican leaders promised to maintain efforts to
repeal the law and offer replacement measures for individual provisions,
such as the individual mandate.
