Archives for London help secure access to Hammersmith & Fulham Archives
Archives for London have been working with Hammersmith & Fulham Council to secure access to the Borough's unique historical archives.
Earlier this week Hammersmith & Fulham Council revealed that the reading room at the Lila Husset on Talgarth Road, previously identified for closure at the end of February to accommodate the Council‟s cost reduction ambitions, would be kept open.
Archives for London have been working with Hammersmith and Fulham officers and local groups to keep the service open under the supervision of a professional archivist. We are now able to reveal the new terms of operation for the Hammersmith & Fulham Local Studies & Archives, agreed with the Council on 21 February.
David Mander, Chair of Archives for London said, “Whilst we deeply regret any reduction in access to or maintenance of archive services anywhere, we are pleased that Hammersmith and Fulham Council have agreed a way forward that secures an overview by a professional archivist. The involvement of volunteers from local heritage societies is essential if this arrangement is to work and we will provide support and advice on setting up the new service if required.”
