Ted: I know you are right... How long does it take with dedicated
independent study to learn a language enough to read it (slowly). Is
it possible or do I really need to seek a classroom environment you
think?
Its my hope to one day read Rimbaud, Baudelaire, and Lautremont in the
original French... I suppose I should just get going...
Any success stories to encourage me? : )
Caroline: Good point!! Im sure there is a fair bit of historicity at
play here in how we look back on the era. When it comes to the
decadents I had the impression they were self consciously "sexy" and
"stylish" while feigning absolute disinterest : ) . When it all boils
down I suppose the stylishness is all really just proto-goths and
opiate addicted trust fund kiddies... sounds familiar... times
never change the art just gets worse.
Cheers and thanks for the kick in the pants regarding language study. :)
