Dear colleagues,
The SustainCity EU-co-funded research project is organizing an
UrbanSim Workshop in Athens, Greece on July 4-6, 2011. This will be an
excellent opportunity for interested parties from various backgrounds
to develop a deeper understanding of UrbanSim.
UrbanSim is a software-based simulation system for supporting planning
and analysis of urban development, incorporating the interactions
between land use, transportation, the economy, and the environment. It
is intended for use by Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs),
cities, counties, non-governmental organizations, researchers and
students interested in exploring the effects of infrastructure and
policy choices on community outcomes such as motorized and
non-motorized accessibility, housing affordability, greenhouse gas
emissions, and the protection of open space and environmentally
sensitive habitats.
Prof. Paul Waddell (UC Berkeley), who initiated and leads the UrbanSim
initiative, will be the main lecturer in this Workshop, along with Dr.
C. Antoniou (NTUA) and other colleagues. The Workshop will include
lecture-type sessions, as well as interactive lab-sessions during
which the participants will be able to install and run UrbanSim in
their own laptops.
You can find more information about the workshop (including the 1st
Announcement and a syllabus overview) at the following link:

Best regards,
Costas Antoniou
