The Department of Chemistry at the University of Helsinki is searching for
ONE POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER AND ONE GRADUATE STUDENT
for four-year positions starting from 1 March 2011 or according to contract in the framework of the Finland Distinguished Professor (FiDiPro) Program and the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Computational Molecular Science (CoE CMS) at the Kumpula Campus of the University of Helsinki. The computational chemistry research will be directed by FiDiPro R. Benny Gerber, in collaboration with experimental research in spectroscopy and photochemistry at the Departments of Chemistry and Physics in the University of Helsinki, Finland. The objective is to break new grounds by approaches that combine innovative computational and experimental methods.
The successful candidates are expected to carry out experimental and/or computational/theoretical work on at least one of the following topics: Atmospheric chemistry especially processes at water complexes and ice particles; Solid state chemistry including new noble-gas molecules; Spectroscopy and conformational dynamics of biologically-relevant molecules.
The CoE CMS includes more than 60 scientists, and has excellent computational and experimental facilities. Professor Gerber, of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of California at Irvine, will establish a research group in Helsinki and will spend significant time in Finland working with the Centre of Excellence.
