The 10th International Conference on the Care and Treatment of
Offenders with a Learning Disability
Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th April 2011
At the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK
Background
This two day conference is now recognised as the foremost opportunity,
in the UK and internationally, for reflection and sharing for services
providing care for the Learning Disabled Offender, both in the public
and independent health and social care sectors and the criminal
justice system. The conference, and its published proceedings, has
contributed to providing a platform for this speciality, often
regarded as a minority interest by both health and criminal justice
mainstream services.
The conference will provide an opportunity to hear presentations from
eminent international speakers as well as smaller scale research and
innovations in concurrent presentations. Hosted by the University of
Central Lancashire the conference also offers unparalleled networking
opportunities for delegates from the UK and overseas. The content area
for both keynote and concurrent presenters includes:
Overview of Forensic Learning Disability Services from an
International perspective
Benchmarking in Forensic Learning Disability Settings
Education and Training needs of staff
Focus on providing up to date information on legal aspects and complex needs

Conference Aims
This conference provides an opportunity for individuals from a range
of organisations and agencies to meet together with the aim of
• Creating an environment where practitioners, policy makers,
researchers and advocates from multiple countries can find ongoing
opportunities for learning and collaboration.
• Exchanging information on effective models of care, intervention
strategies, research, training and policy making to be utilised in
different countries to improve care on a local, regional and national
basis.
Call for Papers /Workshops
Papers / Workshops are invited from any discipline or perspective
relevant to the management or care of learning disabled offenders or
those requiring similar services. Proposals by practitioners, service
users, decision and policy makers, as well as by academics, students,
researchers and advocates are welcomed. Papers are allocated 40
minutes and workshops 80 minutes in a concurrent format.
The organisers will consider papers relating to the following topics:
· Models of care for effective interventions (Clinical Interventions)
· Research programmes and results
· Policy Development
· Education and Training
· Organisational issues
· Personality Disorder
· Advocacy and User Issues
· Minority Issues
· Women’s Issues
· Dual Diagnosis
· Substance Abuse
· Transcultural Issues
· Autism spectrum disorders including Aspergers Syndrome
· Offending focused interventions
Abstract Guidelines
Proposals should be titled clearly, limited to a maximum of 250 words
and should be submitted by e-mail.
On a separate page please list:
· authors name and work address
· telephone number at work, fax and email address
· job title
· title of abstract submitted
· indicate if you wish to propose a workshop
Conference proceedings will be published on the ldoffenders website.
In order for this to be facilitated as soon as possible, presenters
will be expected to submit a hard copy and disc copy of the full paper
to the Conference Organiser two weeks before the conference. Do not
type your name on the abstract page
