Dear All
Application is now open for the British Science Association 2011 Media Fellowships
Last year we received over 150 applications from researchers from a wide variety of disciplines, so thank you to list members for your part in this!
The Media Fellowship scheme aims to build trust between scientists and the media by awarding 10 scientists, social scientists, clinicians or engineers the opportunity to spend 3-8 weeks on a summer placement with a national media host such as the Guardian, Nature or BBC to experience science journalism from the other side of the fence.
Media Fellows come away better equipped to communicate their work to the public and colleagues, learn writing and interview skills that improve teaching and funding applications, and develop a better relationship and awareness of the media.
Please find below some text to pass onto any researchers who may be interested and a flyer can be found at http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/forms/scicomm/mediafellows/download/MF2011_flyer.pdf <http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/forms/scicomm/mediafellows/download/MF2011_flyer.pdf%20%20> . Please contact me off list if you are able to distribute any hard copies.
More information about the scheme can be found at http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/mediafellows and any help you can give spreading the word, tweeting, posting on websites would be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks and best wishes
Amy

Want to know what it's like to be a science journalist?
Communicating the latest research developments to a broad audience is a special skill.
With a British Science Association Media Fellowship Experience first-hand how science is reported by spending 3-8 weeks on a summer placement with a national press, broadcast or internet journalist such as the Guardian, Nature or BBC, working with them to produce accurate, well informed news pieces about developments in science.
Return to work better equipped to communicate your research to the public and your colleagues. Learn to work within the constraints of the media and develop writing skills that could make journal articles and funding applications easier and more concise.
