(The Girl) Salvage
in rain ceaseless light
distances rock star-wobble rivers
pass animals looping
to describe what is fragile (oh mother!)
to cover domes
to meet summer white rise
eyeing savage stages
extremity trees
thunder pins lightning
to vibrate storm houses
wind into cloud banks
manners between buildings
sight breaches cry
blows in skeleton
solace colours sunlight
Jill Jones - 19 Jan 2011, Sydney
This poem is another retrieval where salvaged words seemed to form
around some thinking on this summer's various La Niņa events,
including my own recent travel through areas where drought has turned
to greening and once-empty rivers and lakes are huge and brown with
silt, as well as contact with friends experiencing flood.
