Beyond body counts: a qualitative study of lives and loss after ‘near miss’ obstetric complications in Burkina Faso
Dr Susan F. Murray
Susan Murray is Reader in International Healthcare in the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, King’s College London. She is a social scientist with a background in nursing and in midwifery. Her research and teaching focus on social and economic dimensions of healthcare systems and on access to care. She has been working on maternal health policy and programming issues for over 20 years, and has provided specialist advice and input for the UN Millennium Project, the World Health Organization, UK Department for International Development, UK NPSA, NORAD, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Recent research collaborations include work with AfricSanté and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on a longitudinal study in Burkina Faso examining the long-term social and economic impact of obstetric ‘near-miss’.
