Sheila
Like you we've lost access to ACM DL via federated search. We do have access via EZproxy.
This is our stanza:
T ACM Digital Library
U http://portal.acm.org
D acm.org
H www.acm.org
H delivery.acm.org
H beta.reviews.com
We have the following directives at the head of the config file, above the resource list,
which may or may not have an effect on the connection to ACM DL:
# allows longer timeout (RefWorks needs it to be up to 300 seconds for larger transfers to occur)
RemoteTimeout 300
ClientTimeout 300
# added to help access sites with AJAX, etc, db 22/12/2010
HTTPHeader X-Requested-With
# Safari problem - check against MyiLibrary, etc, db 20/1/2011
Option SafariCookiePatch
Best wishes

Subject: [lis-e-resources] unable to access acm
Apologies for cross-posting. We have been experiencing problems accessing ACM Digital Library at all using any browser for about 6 months now and wonder if any other sites are experiencing similar problems and id you would you be willing to share with us your access link and the method you use to access ACM – is it Shibboleth, Athens, EasyProxy or some other method. We seem to have been going round in circles for some time now, not getting anywhere. Our university IT department seem to think it is browser related but some people seem to be able to log in using one particular browser whilst other members of staff cannot login in to the database using that same browser. The suppliers have not been able to offer much in the way of assistance and our e-services department are struggling to find a way to make it consistently accessible. This is not the same problem that some sites are experiencing with problems with access after successful login.
Around May last year our existing EzProxy authentication to ACM began to produce error messages.
We got rid of this by changing the authentication method to Novell iChain, using the URL https://acm.rgu.ac.uk/dl.cfm?coll=portal&dl=ACM which worked OK for several months. Since about November we are having what seem to be re-direct problems.
Basically after entering user name and password, users find that the authentication process never completes.
Firefox provides useful diagnosis: the error message which is given is that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. The url acm.rgu.ac.uk etc redirects to portal.acm etc which redirects back to acm.rgu.ac.uk perpetually. Other browsers such as IE8 attempt to resolve this interminably, leaving the screen hanging.
We would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced similar problems and, hopefully, how you managed to get round this. If you could provide us with details of the link you use to access ACM and any details of how this is set up for both on and off-campus access, we should be most grateful.
Best wishes
Sheila Scott
