Dear all,

The next ESA conference will take place in the University of Geneva from 7th to 10th September 2011. The theme for this conference is Social Relations in Turbulent Times. For more information, please visit the conference website: http://www.esa10thconference.com/

Please see below the Call for Papers from the ESA RN23 Sexuality network . We do hope that you will consider submitting a proposal so that once again we can have a full and interesting programme. Please forward this email to your own mailing lists and networks.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Turbulent Sexualities?

During the first decade of the twenty-first century, there have been significant changes in social attitudes, legal frameworks and cultural understandings concerning sexuality across Europe and beyond. Within sociology a vast array of theoretical, methodological and conceptual approaches have been applied to the study of sexuality during this period. However, in turbulent times like those we are living in, when social inequalities tend to deepen and social cohesion is threatened, research agendas are frequently redefined and sociological agendas must be adapted to cope with new ideas and new social realities. Therefore, it seems important that we ask: what now for sexuality in turbulent times? Will sexuality fade from the sociological and political agenda? Or is a concern with the sexual in fact a mirror of our turbulent times?

We are inviting papers that address sexuality in turbulent times, or turbulent sexualities, in the following list of thematic areas; however this is not an exhaustive list so please feel free to send a proposal not directly linked directly to these themes.

Sexual citizenship
Sexuality and the media
Sexuality and politics
Regulating sexualities
Sexuality, age and identity
Conceptualising and theorising sexualities
Sexualities and crime
Sexualities and intimate lives
Sexuality and the work place
Teaching sexualities
Sexuality and health
Sexualities and globalisation
Sexualities and space/place
Methodological innovations

Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted by 25th February 2011 via the ESA submission platform. Abstracts will be blind reviewed and acceptance will be notified by 6th April 2011.

We look forward to seeing you in Geneva in September 2011.
