Dear colleagues
MMU offers a number of postgraduate courses inthe area of critical disability studies. We have a burgeoning community of PhD
(Doctor of Philosophy) studentsand offer a number of Masters courses including: PgCert/PgDip/MSc Psychology and Disability
Studies. The latter programme is relevant to people who are engaged in disabilityactivism; for those engaged with disability
studies theory and others who workas allies or supporters to disabled people. It may also be a suitable foundationfor further
research degrees. The programme aims to explore how disability isframed and understood using a number of different perspectives.
These includecritical psychological perspectives, social, relational and cultural modelsof disability, experiences of disabled
people and the disabled people’smovement. The programme also aims to show a commitment to socialperspectives on disability,
exposing the material, social andcultural conditions of disablism. Mandatory core modules in psychology ofoppression, exclusion
and fair and just society are taken alongside flexiblestudy options.
