--------------
Seminar 5: Material Feminisms, Friday, 18 February 2011, 10:30am-4:30pm
School of Geographical Sciences, University of Bristol.
Seminar 5 asks how new networks of care and new economic and political
relationships are emerging from research on emergent forms of life and from
the renewed interest in materiality in feminist scholarship. The session
will consider the implications of concepts of materialism and materiality
for rethinking the body, knowledge, politics, and agency. Do the
techno-scientific innovations reshaping the natural and life sciences
require transforming feminist conceptions of 'life itself'?
Speakers include: Samantha Frost (Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), Felicity
Callard (King's College London), Kate Boyer (Southampton) and Sarah Hodges
(Oxford)
Attendance at the seminar is free but prior registration is required to
help with catering arrangements. To register, please contact Gemma Simpson
([log in to unmask]) no later than FRIDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2011.
We are pleased to offer funds to support the participation of
postgraduates, postdoctoral fellows, early career researchers, and unwaged
participants at the seminar. In order to apply for a grant to cover travel
costs, please send your name, academic position if applicable, contact
details, and a statement of your research interests and why you wish to
attend the seminar (50 words maximum) to Gemma Simpson at the above email
address by MONDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2011.
