Alastair,
What seems to be coming apparent is that 'biblical' flooding is the
leading
consequence of global warming. Maybe this is Gaia's first line of
defence which
bodes ill for a high proportion of the human race; but what would you
do if you
were Gaia?
Maybe it doesn't mean the end of the world because this could be a
major negative
feed-back. Overall I would have thought that regular huge dousings of
fresh water
would give the biosphere much to get on with despite huge casualties
in the process.
So life might go on including a much chastened and reduced human
population.
Very largely conjecture of course, but are our climate change models
up to getting
it right when we start to move into uncharted territories? For
example, how robustly
do the models embrace the retreat of phyto-plancton in the face of
rising sea temperatures,
if at all?
