>> Wolfson John Fell Fund Research Fellowship in the Anthropology of Fertility and Reproduction in South Asia
>> Salary £28,983
>> Wolfson College and the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME) wish to appoint a Research Fellow for three years (2011-2014) specializing in the anthropology of fertility and reproduction in South Asia, possibly within the context of HIV/AIDS, tenable from 1 October 2011. Funding for the position comes from the John Fell Fund, Wolfson College, and SAME, jointly. The Fellow will be expected to carry out research and to participate in the work of the Fertility and Reproduction Studies Group (FRSG) within SAME and in intellectual life within Wolfson College.
>>
>> It is intended that this Fellowship will provide an opportunity for an outstanding academic at an early stage of their career. The research excellence of the Fellow is paramount to this position though there will be limited access to teaching opportunities (up to a maximum of six hours per week) in the interest of furthering the Fellow’s career development. Candidates must have a strong educational record and be approaching the end of their doctoral research in anthropology or have recently begun post-doctoral study. Research expertise should be demonstrated by publications or the promise of such achievement. The applicant should have a coherent plan of research for the duration of the fellowship. The Fellow would be expected to produce two publications of quality suitable for inclusion in REF at University of Oxford standard, with additional publications to be in preparation by the end of the Fellowship. A research support allowance of £1,000 per year is provided with the post, and there is a small research fund at Wolfson; the Fellow will also be entitled to Common Table dining rights at Wolfson College. It is expected that the postholder would secure external funding to support more ambitious research activities.
>> Candidates must be confident that they will have obtained their doctorates by the start of their appointment.
>>
>> Enquiries may be made to Professor David Gellner ([log in to unmask]) or to Professor Marcus Banks ([log in to unmask]). Applications, which should include a covering letter clearly addressing how the applicant would meet the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae and a plan of research, should be submitted electronically to Mrs Katie Grainger ([log in to unmask]) by February 18th 2011. Applicants should arrange for two referees to send their references by the same date. One reference should be from a current or most recent employer or academic supervisor. Interviews will be held in the week beginning March 7th 2011.
