'academic' is, in my opinion, a method, an approach, not necessarily a job.

well first off thanks for the intro, and i ssupect there are several folk
here just drooling about your job !
Academic is a state of mind, not necessarily a job title- and some of the
acads here are also practitioners, so don't feel like an underdog in any way
Lovecraft is an interest of quite a few present, and there is also a
Lovecraft Scholars group on Yahoo who would be perhaps useful to join
