Fyi, may be of interest. I can't go, but hope that some will send searching questions in relation to this (some might say misguided) agenda.

Can I remind you about the public event we are holding on Thursday 27th
January, and ask you all to bring this to the attention of as many other
people as possible, please? This message also contains details of how to
download a free ticket and propose a question for the panel.
The event will take place at the New Theatre, East Building, London School
of Economics from 6.30 to 7.30pm. We are running this event as an open
discussion around the question 'Measuring National Well-being: Is Happiness
the Answer?'.
Mark Easton, from the BBC, will chair a panel consisting of Professor Paul
Dolan (LSE), Trevor Phillips (Equality and Human Rights Commission),
Bridget Rosewell (Volterra Consulting) and Aileen Simkins (ONS). They will
say no more than a few words to set the scene before Mark opens discussion
for questions and comments from the audience.
If you wish to attend this event please download a free ticket using this
website http://nationalwellbeing.eventbrite.com , and take the opportunity
to propose a question for the panel. Please also feel free to forward this
invitation to others who may be interested in attending.
As you will be very aware, we have had a lot of media and public interest
in the national debate on the measurement of well-being since the Prime
Minister asked the National Statistician on 25th November to lead this
work. We are looking at measures of national well-being wider than GDP,
including measures of subjective well-being to be collected through ONS
household surveys.
However, there is still quite a lot of comment along the lines that this is
just about producing a happiness index. So, we want lots of people to come
along to the LSE lecture theatre on 27th January to debate this: is it
about producing a happiness index, or is there more to life than happiness
and GDP?
Hope to see you on the 27th January, at what should be a lively and
interesting event.
thanks
Paul
