HLG Study Day: Articulating the benefits of Health Library Services
What the day is about: Showing the value of your library service to your organisation
The benefits of attending: You will gain skills to enable you to speak to people at all levels of your organisation about the value that library services provide.
The arrangements and logistics:
§ Venue - George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton.
§ Timings - 15th March 2011. Arrive from 09.30 for 10.00 start. Study Day will end at 16.00
§ Arrangements - the Study Day will include tea/ coffee on arrival, a morning break for tea/coffee and a lunch break
§ Places are free to HLG members, but failure to attend or to send a replacement HLG member, will result in a charge of £50 if cancelled prior to 3 weeks before the study day or £100 if cancelled in less than three weeks before the study day.
The format of the day:
§ The Study Day will be workshop based and will include a number of facilitated sessions and small group exercises. Attendees will be encouraged to participate through sharing their ideas, skills, knowledge and experiences
§ The Study Day will be shaped around three key themes: learning before doing (to learn from and build on what already exists), turning ideas into action (actions for attendees to use and implement in their organisations), and creating a sustainable platform to secure future success including how to engage with stakeholders
The learning objectives:
By the end of the workshop attendees will:
§ Have explored ways of expressing value that are likely to be most powerful and meaningful to Member organisations, budget holders and key stakeholders
§ Have considered how to establish a baseline against which measurement can be made and value assessed given the Member organisation context and key drivers
§ Have determined practical approaches to measuring the value of HLG member's library services, or aspects of library services, in financial or other terms (e.g. return on investment, cost savings, productivity gains)
§ Have discussed the next steps that Members can take forward with their respective organisations, and agreed the next steps that can be further developed and shared with the wider Membership via the HLG web site
