The MRC Biostatistics Unit is concerned with the development and application of statistical methods in medicine and biology. This includes research into the epidemiology and aetiology of disease, the development of models of the natural history of disease, the design and analysis of trials of preventive measures or of therapeutic or prophylactic agents and the evaluation of medical technology, and the development of mathematical-statistical techniques. Much of the work of the unit is performed in collaboration with other council units and other scientific workers
We are delighted to offer this 2 year training fellowship, to work on statistical methods in primary medical research with particular emphasis on clinical trial methodology and health economic modelling arising from those trials.
The post holder will contribute to the design, monitoring, analysis and reporting of a series of RCTs, particularly the AMAZE trial, arising from ongoing collaborations with Papworth Hospital and the Health Economics Research Unit at Brunel University.
The post is funded as a Research Methods Fellowship by the NHS National Institute of Health Research
MSc/MA in Statistics, Medical Statistics or Epidemiology and an interest in research would be ideal. Candidates with a Post-graduate qualification in a numerate subject and the desire to develop a career in medical statistics or clinical trial methodology are also encouraged to apply.
