1. ORGANISATIONAL CHART
Report to: Associate Dean Research, Divisional LeaderPostholder: Research Fellow in Glass
2. CONTACTS
Internal: Academic,
technical, research staff and students within the academic schools of the University
and members of the University service departments.
External: Wide range of clients, including research councils,
HE institutions, funding agencies and societies specific to Art and Design, research
students and researchers, government organisations, private providers of
educational services, local authorities, voluntary organisations, international
research commissioners, commercial businesses.
3. PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
The post holder will hold a first
degree in a relevant discipline, together with a PhD (or equivalent). The post holder will have proficiency in
creative glass design skills including technical innovation and research
methods in the applied arts ideally with an understanding of, and experience
in, site-based research settings. The
post holder will be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently to
develop new research objectives and proposals including contributing to the
securing of external funding and collaborative projects. The post holder will have a developing
portfolio of publications in high impact peer reviewed research journals or
equivalent relevant to their field and will have supervised student research
projects.
4. PURPOSE OF POST
To
initiate and undertake innovative, high quality research in support of the
School’s Research Plan, working with the research cluster/institute leader to
expand the quality and quantity of research in the subject. To initiate and support applications
for external funding, assisting with bid writing when appropriate. To participate in the teaching and
supervision of students, ensuring a safe, ethical working environment.
5. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The post
holder will in the context of the University of Wolverhampton Code of Practice:
a) design, initiate and undertake new research projects
in support of the University’s agreed research agenda and the School’s Research
Plan;
b)
deliver and disseminate
research results in internationally respected publications / fora / venues,
developing a proven track record for high quality, academic outputs;
c)
supervise research students
to ensure delivery of high quality PhDs and MPhils in acceptable times,
including training of research students;
d)
participate in the teaching
of the undergraduate / postgraduate programme, including the design, delivery
and assessment of specialist input to various award modules;
e)
operate and monitor
appropriate control measures in order to ensure a high level of safe and
ethical performance is maintained throughout the research environment;
f)
generate research funding
from non-HEFCE sources, such as research councils, charities, government
departments, commercial clients, etc. by initiating and preparing bids and assisting
others in bid writing;
g)
develop and maintain
relationships with research councils, funding bodies, commercial and
professional organisations;
h)
deliver workshops /
presentations to a range of audiences from local schools to the general public,
as required;
i)
support research cluster
activities, including supporting staff to achieve their agreed research outputs;
j)
support the University’s
commitment to equal opportunities and widening access and participation;
k)
undertake such other tasks
within the level of the post, as may be required by the Dean of School.
