PhD Studentship
Location: Albany, Massey University, New Zealand
This PhD project has been developed to support the Future Market Directions project for Platform 4 activities of the Riddet CoRE programme. The Riddet Institute was established in 2003 at Massey University. It was accorded Centre of Research Excellence status in 2007 by the New Zealand government. It has significant government and industry funding which brings together leading researchers to expand scientific knowledge of foods, innovation and health.
The overall aim of this research is to develop a comparative consumer model identifying the awareness, knowledge and judgement and potential perceived risks and benefits in relation to novel bioactive food ingredients. This PhD project will focus on how people understand and use health and food with novel bioactive ingredients as a vehicle for supporting their health. Qualitative research, adopting a social constructionist approach to methodology and analytical framework, will be carried out in domestic and international sites.
This three year scholarship offers a stipend of $25,000 (NZD) per annum, plus university fees paid and operating costs. Candidates must meet the University requirements for PhD studies. Skills in qualitative research are considered highly desirable. We welcome applications from domestic and international researchers with an appropriate science or social science disciplinary background, including human nutrition, food studies, food technology, psychology, sociology social anthropology, human geography, or similar.
