Subject: [animationstudies] HELP!
Hi friends,
There is quite an unusual request for all of you!
In the last eight or nine months in Bulgaria we suffer a strong attack against the Bulgarian Universities and the Research institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of sciences; an attack undeclared but persistently pursued by Bulgarian government. We all understand the cut of funds in times of crisis but now a new bill is going to be rushed through the Parliament, depriving the Research institutes of their academic autonomy. We, all Bulgarian researchers in different fields, try to fight back and need international support.
The petition has already been already signed by more than 3000 academic persons from all over the world, including three Nobelists: Andre Geim, Nobel Laureate, University of Manchester (No 1266); Alexei Abrikosov, Professor, Member of Academies of Sciences of Russia, USA, Hungary, UK, Laureate of the Nobel Prize for Physics, Honorable Doctor of Numerous Universities, Argonne National Laboratory,USA (No1642); David Gross, Director KITP, Nobel Prize in physics 2004, University of California Santa Barbara (No 1678). You can see their names at http://www.science.nauka2010.com/signed.php ).
Researchers often suffer from bureaucrats’ arbitrary acts so I think this is a familiar situation for many of you. We, the scholars in human studies and science in Bulgaria, now seek for international support. And I will really appreciate your help. Everybody is invited to sign our petition at http://www.science.nauka2010.com/ .
I would like so much to talk other matters with you but this is really an emergency!
See you in Athens soon!
With my best regards
Assoc. prof. Nadezhda Marinchevska, PhD
Head of “Screen arts” department
Institute for Art Studies
Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
