Richard
I'm just sending this email to confim that Olga Batra, Chris Foreman and I myself will be attending on behalf of Roehampton. Assuming that this weather improves, of course!

Subject: Talis Aspire User Group meeting - 14 December, Nottingham - draft agenda
The draft agenda for the third Talis Aspire User Group meeting, being held at Nottingham Trent University on 14 December 2010, is now available online:
http://talisaspireusergroup.wordpress.com/about/
Things are still subject to change (I’ll also now be approaching sites to recruit presenters directly!), but this should give a good idea of the proposed content of the day:
There are currently 19 registered attendees, including those from Talis and from the following Aspire sites:
Brunel University
Harper Adams University College
Keele University
Nottingham Trent University
Roehampton University
University of Derby
University of Portsmouth
University of St Andrews
University of Sussex
Registration to attend the meeting closes on Tuesday 30 November – so, if you’re planning to attend but have yet to register, you’ve just over a week to finalise arrangements.
Thanks to everyone who has completed the ‘snapshot survey’ (details and URL below). The survey will close on the same day as the registration process – namely, 30 November. So far, the following sites have completed the survey form:
Keele University
Nottingham Trent University
University of Plymouth
University of St Andrews
University of Sussex

Subject: Talis Aspire User Group meeting – 14 December, Nottingham - registration open
Registration
Registration for the Talis Aspire User Group meeting at Nottingham Trent University on 14 December 2010 is now open. To register to attend, please complete the brief online registration form:
http://talisaspireusergroup.wordpress.com/registration/
Attendance at the user group meetings is free, and – overall numbers permitting – there is no constraint on how many attendees a site can send. Only current Aspire customer sites can participate.
Sessions on the day will cover a range of different themes, including: academic adoption and support; selection and acquisitions processes; authentication and authorisation and more. There will also be Aspire product updates from Talis.
If a majority of sites send more than one participant, we may arrange some parallel sessions in the afternoon slot (e.g. Acquisitions, Technical, Academic adoption). Alternatively, we may run a single strand throughout the day. It all depends on the level of interest, and the range of different specialisms that are represented.
If there’s any theme or subject that you’re interested in presenting on, or talking about in some way, please share your ideas with the list (see below for some possible suggestions). We’ll be looking to firm up the programme in the next couple of weeks, and all proposals are very welcome.
‘Snapshot’ survey
As mentioned in an earlier email (see below), because the number of customers has grown over the last year, we’re proposing to set aside the introductory ‘where we are with Aspire’ customer update component of the day (to make room for more specific sessions). Instead, the intention is to collate this ‘snapshot’ information by means of an online survey. The combined results of the survey will be shared with Talis and other Aspire customers.
Could you arrange for one representative from your site to complete the ‘Talis Aspire User Group Survey’ on your institution’s behalf (it should take no more than 5-10 minutes)? You’ll find the online survey here: http://bit.ly/b4bcHD

Subject: Talis Aspire User Group meeting – 14 December, Nottingham
After discussions with colleagues at the University of Manchester (the other potential hosts) it has been agreed that the next Talis Aspire User Group meeting will be held at Nottingham Trent University on Tuesday 14 December.
The agenda will be finalised nearer the time, but it is intended that the meeting will begin at 09:30 and conclude at 15:30, and will be held on the city campus (easily accessible by tram from the park-and-ride, if approaching Nottingham by car; and, again, by tram if arriving at Nottingham by train. For those further afield, East Midlands Airport is a short distance away – with a shuttle bus running in to the city centre, close to the city campus).
Initial details have been added to the Talis Aspire User group blog:
http://talisaspireusergroup.wordpress.com
At previous meetings, customers have provided presentation updates on their progress with implementing Talis Aspire. As the user base has grown significantly since the last meeting, it is proposed instead that each site complete a brief online survey indicating their ‘where we are now’ status ahead of the meeting (details to follow). This will be collated and made available to all meeting participants. Pulling this useful information together in this way should provide more time in the day for sessions on such themes as (but not limited to):
* Making use of the new Acquisitions functionality in Aspire
* Integrating Aspire with the VLE
* Academic engagement and the promotion of a Resource Lists service to students
* Making sense of Google Analytics usage data for Aspire
* Overcoming obstacles to adoption (or, indeed, being held up by them)
* Authentication and authorisation – using Devolved Permissions
* Top-ten Resource List frustrations for students, academics and librarians (and what might be done about them)
* Bookmarking beyond the OPAC
* And much more...
In addition to these customer-led sessions, Talis will provide a product update on recent innovations and the evolving Aspire roadmap. We’ll also return to the question of the most useful type of online space the user group could adopt (do we need a wiki; a web site; a social network; or is the email list sufficient?)
If there’s a topic that you, or your site, would be willing to present on; or if there’s a session that you’d like to see included on the day, please post your ideas and suggestions to the list. During November, we’ll look to firm up and finalise a programme for the day.
For those planning to attend their first Talis Aspire User Group meeting, please note the following:
* The Talis Aspire User Group is currently an informal grouping; with membership open to all Aspire customers globally
* Attendance at the user group meetings is free, and – overall numbers permitting – there is no constraint on how many attendees a site can send. Only current Aspire customer sites can participate
* As at previous meetings, Talis have kindly agreed to cover the cost of catering on the day
