Hi
The NMC do specify the need to take a blood pressure both manually and electronically ( see link http://standards.nmc-uk.org/Documents/Annexe3_%20ESCs_16092010.pdf) however if you read the essential skills there is an emphasis on interpretation of information and clinical decision making. I would suggest that given the importance of interpretation of results and the increased use of electronic technology a case could be made under reasonable adjustment for the student to be competent in recording blood pressures electronically and be able to interpret results, this would include recognising when a result did not reflect other clinical parameters or observations made of the patient and knowing when to ask for a blood pressure to be checked by another member of staff. Many students, including those with perfect hearing, find it difficult to take accurate blood pressures. It would be useful for you to have this discussion with the NMC.
