That explains the 'via Calais' on one of the cycle vans. I was surprised to see this on a train loading in Watford!

The ride was planned by the GM of London Midland Region a CTC member, and
very nearly didn't happen due to a rail strike. Skills of the film crew
disguised the lack of numbers (several dummy group boards at Rugby) the
loading sequence was shot later on night (at Victoria I think) and the following
year there was a film made of the CTC tour of Austria. The entire film was
planned on thed hoof and filmed by a crew driving around in a Black
Bedford van
It was premiered at the Rugby Railway Institute and this was not without
incident as the film and projector came up with the 'boss' on the train, but
without a take-up reel. After the showing the audience had to remain
seated until the film had been rewound from the pile which had been run-out on
to the floor.
The Coventry-based organiser was still living in 2005 (50th anniversary) in
Coventry
The following year a second train took over 400 cyclists to Coventry and
back to Stratford - they were disembarked in less than 6 minutes, and found
an amazing tea-stop near Stratford, who managed to cater for the horde
....alfresco.
In the CTC move to Guildford a near unused copy was found in the store and
CD mastered.

That was awesome. When did people stop throwing their right leg over the
handlebars to mount a bike? It looks quite cool. I may try and bring
this back.

Ah, in the heady days of early post war integrated transport policy this
is the sort of service that was offered to cyclists by British Railways,
captured on film for ever by the British Transport Film Unit...just imagine
such a thing today...
