The Rural Social Capital: A Sociological Interpretation of Origin and Efficiency of Agribusiness

Abstract: 

The article focus on the origin and efficiency, and subsistent state, and growth path of agribusiness in rural backgrounds based on social capital perspective. The results indicate that high qualified rural social capital plays critical role in the emergence and development of native agribusiness by enabling organizations to conquer the obstacle of double limitations of capital and institutions in original stage. Agribusiness achieves necessary organization efficiency through substituting the factor of hierarchy for the rural social capital integrant including trust, regulation, and network. The research seeks to enhance the explanation for the existence and growth of non-typical Hierarchical Organizations and provide new insights into the status and the development of the agribusiness. 

 

About the speakers: 


LIU Xiuqin, Associate Professor, College of Economics & Management, South China Agricultural University (SCAU). Based on her many research projects she published nearly two dozens of papers covering various topics, such as: Organizational Structure of China's state run large enterprises - Iron and Steel Industry, Organizational culture in the management, Dynamic Analysis of the organizational culture in SMEs, Analysis of the growth conditions and the financial evaluation in small listed companies, Remuneration policy to avoid the trap --- Human resource management in the "lemon market", Identification analyses of core competence in agribusiness, and Comparative studies on financial analysis between China and USA. 


MA Di, Research student, School of Finance, Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), China. She has published a paper on the relationship between unexpected earnings in stock and public bulletin events. As the co-author of this talk she will also help with the interpretation of this seminar.
