Museum of Vancouver inherits Olympic artifacts
Like children in a candy shop, Vancouver’s curators and archivists are
excited about the massive volume of artifacts and material they’ve
inherited from the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
This week the Vancouver Archives signed an agreement with the
Vancouver Organizing Committee taking control of almost the entire
body of Vanoc’s documents. And next week, curators at the Museum of
Vancouver hope to win a $585,000 grant from the city to begin
cataloguing, digitizing and storing more than 2,000 artifacts, from
medals and coins to clothing, posters, signs, medal trays and even one
of the First Nations heads used in the Olympic opening ceremony. The
Museum of Vancouver is on Ogden Street on Kits Point, and shares a
building with the Vancouver Planetarium.
