HSBC is pleased to announce two new London-based roles within its Global Archives function:

HSBC Group Management Office, Archives Manager
Based: London
Salary: approximately £36,000 per annum
Contract: permanent - 35 hours per week
Reports to: Global Head of Archives
Manages: 2 staff
Requirements: Applicants must have a first degree and a post-graduate qualification in Archives and Records Management; plus at least 3 years experience in archives management (preferably in a business environment). Applicants must possess excellent communication and people management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels in the organisation.
The jobholder will be responsible for the management and development of a team to ensure that HSBC’s corporate memory is captured, preserved and promoted at Group Management Office (GMO). The team will maintain the archives of HSBC Holdings plc – and also the extensive legacy archives that are held in London for The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, HSBC Bank Middle East and the Mercantile Bank of India.
The jobholder will liaise with HSBC’s other regional teams to support global projects and promote the HSBC brand. The jobholder will work very closely with the UK Archives team in particular, with whom the collections are jointly stored offsite in East London.
The jobholder will be responsible for the development of collecting/cataloguing/conservation programmes for the GMO collection; will provide an enquiry and research service; will lead outreach projects to communicate HSBC’s history; and will play an active role in the development of policies, procedures and systems across the Global Archives function (e.g. close integration with Records Management, participation in the Digital Archives programme).

HSBC UK, Corporate Archivist
Based: London
Salary: approximately £28,000 per annum
Contract: permanent - 35 hours per week.
Reports to: UK Archives Manager
Requirements: Applicants must have a first degree and a post-graduate qualification in Archives and Records Management.; plus at least 1 years experience in archives (preferably in a business environment). Applicants must possess good communication and customer service skills. Recently qualified archivists are welcome to apply.
The jobholder will assist in the capture, preservation and promotion of the archives of HSBC Bank plc (formerly Midland Bank), its subsidiaries and numerous predecessor banks in the UK. This rich collection dates from the late 1700s to the present day.
The jobholder will play an active role in the day-to-day management of the UK collection. This will involve implementation of the team’s collecting/cataloguing/conservation programmes; the provision of prompt and accurate responses to enquiries; assisting external researchers at the offsite storage facility. The jobholder will also be expected to play a key role in a major relocation project to a new offsite store in East London in 2011.
The jobholder will be involved in outreach projects to communicate HSBC’s history in the UK in support of business objectives and the HSBC brand (e.g. branch anniversary programme and an Oral History programme with employees and retirees). The jobholder will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the wider Global Archives function in support of various joint initiatives (e.g. preparations for HSBC’s 150th anniversary in 2015).
