Archives and Records Association Annual Conference
EDINBURGH, Scotland, United Kingdom
31st August - 2nd September 2011
CALL FOR PAPERS
‘Advocating for Archives and Records: The Impact of the Profession
in
the 21st Century’
The Conference Programme Sub-committee is pleased to announce a call
for papers for the 2011 Conference. We have chosen a theme that is
relevant to all working in the profession and hope that it will
generate
interesting and challenging debate and discussion.
We welcome proposals relating to the theme and, in particular, to the
following areas.
● Working with governmental, local and institutional agendas
● Convincing managers, institutions, funding bodies and other
stakeholders of the value of the profession
● What an emphasis on advocacy means for traditional or core
archive and records management functions
● How archivists and records managers can remain relevant in the
digital world
● Demonstrating and measuring internal and external impact
● Engaging with communities, users and stakeholders
There will be two main tracks to the conference, an Archives & Records
Management track, and a Preservation & Conservation track. The
conference is being held jointly with the International Council on
Archives Section of Professional Associations and delegates will be
able
to attend their sessions as well.
The deadline for submission of proposals is: 10th December 2010.
Advice on proposals:
The Programme Sub-committee welcomes contributions and ideas for
conference sessions from both individuals and groups for single
speaker
or group speaker sessions in a variety of formats including:
● traditional sessions
● focused debates on specific topics
● panel discussions
● roundtables
● practical demonstrations
● sessions encouraging audience participation or debate.
The programme is flexible and session lengths will be decided once
papers have been chosen but please note that individual speakers will
generally have no longer than 30 minutes for their presentations.
