Call for Papers of the Research Network on Ageing in Europe for the 10th European
Sociological Association Conference, Geneva, Switzerland, 7th to 10th September 2011
===================================
Dear RN 1 member,
at the European Sociological Association conferences in Helsinki (2001), Murcia (2003),
Torun (2005), Glasgow (2007) and Lisbon (2009), the Research Network on Ageing in
Europe organised outstandingly successful paper sessions and discussions. Increased
interest in the topic of ageing resulted in record numbers of sessions at the Lisbon
conference. We thank everyone who helped to make these sessions so stimulating and
exciting.
At the 10th conference of the European Sociological Association in Geneva in 2011, the
Ageing in Europe Research Network will again hold sessions that focus on empirical,
theoretical and conceptual aspects of research on ageing. These sessions will continue on-
going discussions, refer to the conference topic "Social relations in turbulent times", and add
some new themes.
Papers could fit into the following thematic areas:
oAgeing and Technology
oSenior Markets and Consumerism in Older Age
oAgeing Societies and the Welfare State
oDiversity, Inequality and Equity in Ageing Societies
oFormal and Informal Care and Older People
oHealth, Mortality and Quality of Life in Older Age
oInformal Networks and Intergenerational Relations in Older Age
oNorms, Values and Images in the Field of Ageing
oInterculturality, Cross-Cultural Comparisons and Ageing
oBiography, the Life-Course and Older Age
oActivities and Time Use in Older Age
oAgeing and Mobility
oRetirement and the Labour Market in Older Age
oBiographical Perspectives on Ageing in Migration
Of course we will also consider papers with new and creative approaches that do not fit into
one of these categories exactly. Papers with a cross-national, comparative focus and papers
by researchers earlier in their careers are particularly to be welcomed. Individuals should not
be the first author (i.e. the presenter) of more than one paper. If you need additional
information, please contact the RN co-ordinators.
Abstract submission will be open on Monday, 10th January 2011 and will be closed on
Friday, 25th February (see http://www.esa10thconference.com). Please note that paper
givers who have not registered for the conference by June 15th will be withdrawn from the
final programme.
We look forward to meeting you in Geneva!
