(Apologies for any cross-postings)
The Transport Operations Research Group (TORG) within the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Newcastle University has access to funding from the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to support a number of PhD studentships across a range of disciplines within the School including transport. TORG is therefore keen to invite applications from candidates who have, or expect to receive, a first class or high upper second class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
Summaries of a selection of possible PhD research projects within TORG can be found at http://www.ceg.ncl.ac.uk/transport/postgrad/phdprojects.htm, although applicants are also encouraged to propose their own research topics that are consistent with the group's strategic research themes.
The closing date for the receipt of on-line applications by the University is 10th January, 2011. Interviews with suitable candidates are expected to take place on the 21st and 22nd February, 2011. Applications may be submitted at http://www.ceg.ncl.ac.uk/postgrad/phd/apply.htm
The eligibility criteria for receiving EPSRC and NERC funds can be viewed at http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/funding/students/Pages/eligibility.aspx and http://www.nerc.ac.uk/funding/available/postgrad/eligibility.asp respectively.
TORG undertakes internationally leading and high quality research and offer first rate research training through our PhD degree programmes.
