Recruitment of young disabled people
To support the involvement of young disabled people in the research project ALLFIE recruited a new member of staff in September, Zara Todd. Zara is currently recruiting a group of young disabled people and will support them to be involved in the research and different parts of the project.
In October we put a call out for applications from young disabled people aged 11-21 to become young researchers. We received many applications and after lots of tough decisions 20 young disabled people from across England were selected.
Although the deadline has passed for applications for this round we are happy to receive enquiries and applications for future opportunities in the project.
The first meeting of the young researchers is taking place in January and we're all really looking forward to it.

Call for evidence
We are currently reviewing existing literature to establish what is already known about young disabled people's participation.
WE NEED YOUR HELP....
We are interested in evidence of young disabled people's participation in both mainstream, generic and specialist provision across all services that children and young people access.
We are particularly interested in submissions
* Of reports, publications, toolkits, DVD's and other materials that are not on established databases
* Where participation is included as a subsection within reports, for example on transition or education
To submit your evidence, please contact:
Dr Anita Franklin, Senior Researcher, The Children's Society, 2nd Floor, Atlas House, 31 King Street, Leeds, LS1 2HL.
Email: [log in to unmask]<http://htmlemail.ncb.org.uk/link.aspx?linkclick=142293&linkid=4&campaignid=2600>
Tel: 0113 246 5131.
The deadline for submission is: 17 December 2010.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not examining participation within decisions about a child or young person's own personal care e.g. review or planning meetings.

Consultation
NCB Research Centre are currently planning a consultation to map the involvement of young disabled people in the planning and development of services.
The consultation aims to
* Look at voluntary and statutory services
* Look at generic and specialist services
* Provide a picture of how and when young disabled people are involved in service development
* Investigate barriers to their involvement
* Look at issues in supporting effective practice
The consultation will be disseminated in January 2011, in the form of an online survey.
Responses from the consultation will be used to generate case studies for the next stage of the research.
Further information about the consultation and how to get involved will be available on the project website <http://htmlemail.ncb.org.uk/link.aspx?linkclick=142293&linkid=5&campaignid=2600> and e-bulletin from January.
