TORG are pleased to announce this week's Wednesday lunchtime seminar.
"Rail Service Planning at Greater Manchester PTE"
Mr Roy Chapman, Rail Services Planning Officer, Greater Manchester PTE
About the seminar:
The presentation will provide some practical examples of train planning and business case from the viewpoint of a Passenger Transport Executive working with the privatised rail industry. Whilst much of the focus will be on Manchester, which has the largest rail commuting network outside London and has experienced record patronage growth in recent years, many lessons applicable across the wider rail network will be discussed.
Examples will include the major West Coast timetable revision of 2008; station investments and enhancements; rolling stock issues; managing crowding; funding service enhancements; the practical aspects of timetable planning and development (not least, for example on Sundays); the 7 -day railway concept; Route Utilisation Studies and general issues of trying to achieve cost-efficient operations that meet the needs of a major conurbation.
Actual examples of timetable planning etc. will be provided.
About the presenter:
Roy Chapman, currently Rail Services Planning Officer, GMPTE, a railwayman of some 30 years experience in operations, planning, customer service and project development will provide an insight into "Rail Service Development - problems, challenges, and successes - a PTE viewpoint".
