Hannibal,
You are not alone. Just this morning I complained (on facebook!)
about the new web format of the OED, and longed for my old two-volume
microprinted copy of the 2nd edition. It's a good example of needing the
web (I would not want to purchase the multi-shelf 3rd ed., since it is
too cumbersome), while at the same time not wanting it. I am a luddite
at heart, who nevertheless marvels at the 'net and would die without
eebo. I wonder: How near is this paradoxical existence to the way that
sixteenth century scholars felt about the rise of print vis-a-vis
manuscript culture?
Glad for email,
Brad.
