Principal Technical Officer - Observatory
University of Hertfordshire
GBP 25,000 - 27,300 pa with potential to progress to GBP 29,800 pa
on achieving designated skills and experience
You will provide specialist support services to the astronomical
observatory, which includes a complex of eight domes housing a range of
optical telescopes with imaging and spectroscopic instrumentation, a
radio dish with continuum and H-line receivers and a radio
interferometer, in the School of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics.
You must be conversant with contemporary observatory skills, services,
practice, the technologies that support it and be able to support a wide
range of external visitors. A degree or BTEC HND level qualification in
a related subject is highly desirable, or alternatively, equivalent
proven experience. In addition, you will support a wider range of
technical activity across the Faculty and in the Science Learning
Centre, also at Bayfordbury. An awareness of the demands and ambience of
Science education and contemporary science practice is desirable, in
order to work in this varied and challenging role.
