Dear colleague,
National Centre for Research Methods organises a one-day event on mixing qualitative and quantitative methods in Social Network Analysis.
Event title: Mixing Methods (Qualitative and Quantitative) in Social Network Analysis
Date: Thursday 20 January 2011
Venue: Arthur Lewis Building, University of Manchester
Speakers: Nick Crossley and Gemma Edwards from the University of Manchester
Programme and registrations: http://www.ncrm.ac.uk/TandE/events2011/0120
Description of the event: The purpose of the event is to explore the ways in which the formal methods of social network analysis, which are quantitative in nature, can be and in some cases are combined with other research methods, particularly but not exclusively qualitative methods. Because of the nature of the materials dealt with, the session will not offer hands on training but the talks will all be rooted in on going research projects and every effort will be made to bring the discussion alive and maximise its concreteness through real examples and illustrations. In particular the talks will focus upon network analysis in the context of participant observation, qualitative interviewing and archival research.
Fees: £30 for UK registered postgraduate students; £60 for staff at UK academic institutions, ESRC funded researchers and registered charity organisations; £220 for all other participants. All fees include event materials, lunch, morning and afternoon tea. They do not include travel and accommodation costs.
