I would be grateful if you could bring the following studentship to the
attention of those who might be interested.
PhD studentship in Sociology of Science
Understanding the production, use and impact of epidemiological
knowledge and technology: a case study of an air pollution project
The Faculty of Public Health and Policy, London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a NERC funded PhD
studentship, starting 1st July 2011, to conduct an ethnographic study
of the ‘Air pollution and weather related impacts’ study. The PhD will
use this study as a case study to address the following research
questions:
1) How is epidemiological knowledge produced within in a
multi-disciplinary project?
2) How are the technologies (eg a decision analysis aid) that
emerge from that knowledge produced?
3) How do stakeholders in the project (including scientists from
various disciplines, knowledge users, funders) understand, shape and in
turn become shaped by, ‘knowledge’ and ‘technologies’?
