We have hourly paid teaching work available on the undergraduate degree in Media Studies in Sheffield Hallam University, for a number of modules, but especially the following:
ALTERNATIVE MEDIA
The module examines alternative media in its historical and contemporary forms. The following are considered: documentary film, the underground press, pirate radio, ‘zines’, community media, hybrid forms of electronic communication, sampling, copyright issues and p2p (as well as other case studies). In particular the model looks at alternative forms of creativity and distribution and considers the relationship between these and mainstream media. The general aim is to introduce the theoretical body of work linked to the concept and practice of alternative media and to provide students with knowledge of the new political and technological context.
GLOBAL NEWS AND INFORMATION MEDIA
The module is an introduction to global news institutions and structures, the social and political contexts of production and consumption of news and information, news discourses and global news institutions, news and information in the new media order, the transition and reconfiguration of news and information in a global context.
