Hello,
I was just about to post something similar. We have not yet renewed our subscription, as even in a healthy economic climate we could not begin to come anywhere near to affording the price they are asking, and in any case we need a multiple user licence.
I have had battles with Informa each year over several years over the pricing of i-Law (amongst other Informa products), but this year it is clear (again from a phone discussion with them) that they have washed their hands of the academic market so that we can pay the same price as the law firms or not have the service at all.
So yes, I think a collaboration would be a good idea. Here at Plymouth, myself and the subject librarian for law are going to be drafting a letter to the CEO of Informa voicing our concerns, but we hope to get the Dean of Faculty and various other key people to put their names to it as well to hopefully give it more clout. A collaboration between us as well can only be a positive thing.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] i-law
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone else has recently renewed a subscription to
i-law?
In the past we have had access via their Enterprise Licence, allowing
multiple concurrent users, at a price discounted for the academic
sector. This year, they have decided not to offer this discount to
universities, so we are facing a 27% price increase for only two
concurrent users - which we don't anticipate being enough.
I've discussed this with them on the phone, and their implication was
that they aren't viewing universities as their main customer base for
this product, so didn't feel the need to offer a decent price.
So, I wondered what other universities thought about this. Do you think
it would be worth collaborating in some way to encourage them to reverse
their decision?
Kind regards
James
