Dear Colleagues -

On January 1, 2011, we will launch the first set of titles in the JSTOR Current Scholarship Program (CSP), making available the current issues of more than 100 journals on the JSTOR platform.

Many CSP journals are currently available online directly from the publishers and will be migrating to JSTOR as their primary online platform. In anticipation of this change, we want to provide libraries and their vendors with information about access as well as what you need to ensure that A-Z lists, link resolvers, and library discovery services continue to work well and direct users appropriately.

Below are some important preliminary details. We will be posting this and additional information to our website in the coming weeks and will continue to be in touch as the code release and launch dates approach. Instructional webinars will also be offered.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions at [log in to unmask]

Thank you –

Bruce Heterick
VP, Outreach & Participation Services

KEY DATES

December 18, 2010
JSTOR will perform a platform update to include new features to support CSP journals.

December 18-31, 2010
JSTOR will be loading the first set of CSP journals during this period. This will include 2010 content and recent back issues for most, and possibly all, CSP journals. It will also include archival content to volume 1, issues 1 for most titles. Please be aware that during this brief period, users may locate this content if they choose to browse or search all content. They will not have access to this content, however, until 2011 subscription access begins on JSTOR the first of the year.

January 1, 2011
Libraries will gain access on JSTOR to CSP subscribed titles that have been released.

Post January 1
JSTOR will release and provide access to any CSP journals or any volumes/issues that were not part of the initial release.

TRANSITION INFORMATION

LIST OF CSP JOURNALS
A full list of CSP journals is available at:
http://about.jstor.org/participate-jstor/libraries/current-scholarship-program/2011-title-list

A confirmed list of journals for the first release will be available in early December.

CONTENT
CSP journal content will include full-text HTML for some journals and downloadable PDF for all journals. Please note that for some journals, we will be replacing access to the existing page scans on JSTOR with these formats for some volumes/issues over time. This is being done to ensure that the content available on JSTOR reflects the version of record. We will preserve all digital formats, including the page scans previously created by JSTOR, as well as paper copies in our university partner print repositories.

ACCESS
Access for subscribing institutions will be initiated from the JSTOR platform on January 1, 2011 or thereafter as journals are released. This access will automatically integrate the CSP journals with any collections libraries already license from JSTOR. Libraries should check their access after January 1 to ensure subscribed titles are visible and report any problems to us at [log in to unmask]

If you have not done so, please note that new subscriptions and renewals for 2011 can be made directly with JSTOR or through a subscription agent. Publishers may also accept direct orders. Details are available at:
http://about.jstor.org/participate-jstor/libraries/current-scholarship-program/participation-fees-ordering

NEW URLS AND REDIRECTS
A list of CSP publishers, their journals, E-ISSNs, ISSNs, existing journal URLs, and new JSTOR journal URLs, is available at http://about.jstor.org/sites/default/files/CurrentScholarshipProgram_2011_URLs.xls.
This list will be updated to include release dates once confirmed.

Most CSP publishers are planning to keep their existing sites up for a period of at least one month following the release of their journals on JSTOR. We are working with publishers to redirect URLs at or prior to site closures and for at least a year. The level of URL redirect (site-level, journal level) will vary from publisher to publisher.

A complete list of publisher site closure dates and redirect policies will be available in early December.

LICENSING AND COVERAGE DATES
JSTOR is licensing CSP journals in ways that differ from the JSTOR Archival Collections and that may require changes to library access settings with their discovery and linking vendors. The following options are available for CSP journals:

- Current Collections: Traditional journal subscriptions from multiple publishers bundled as collections that match JSTOR archive collections (e.g. A&S I Current).
- Current Collection - Full Run: A Current Collection, plus backfiles of each individual title within that Collection.
- Single Title - Current: a traditional current journal subscription. Available in electronic, plus P+E or P-only for some titles.
- Single Title - Full Run: The complete run of a single title (Volume 1, Issue 1 through the current issue).

To aid in vendors setting up the appropriate access options, downloadable title lists are available for each of the new Current Collections at:
http://about.jstor.org/content-collections/journals/current-scholarship-program/current-collections. Please note that these lists are subject to change based on content loaded and released prior to access beginning on January 1, 2011.

A list of all CSP journals will be available in .CSV format in the future.

LINK FORMAT
JSTOR will support DOI, OpenURL , SICI, and direct links to JSTOR stable URLs for CSP journals.

METADATA AVAILABILITY
Metadata for CSP journals will be available directly from JSTOR for incorporation in discovery services for vendors with whom JSTOR currently has an agreement. If you are interested in receiving this data, please contact [log in to unmask]

Vendors that do not have agreements with JSTOR and that currently receive metadata or full-text directly from CSP publishers should contact those publishers directly for more information about future data deposits or availability.

USAGE STATISTICS
Usage statistics for CSP journals will be available from JSTOR beginning January 1, 2011 or upon release for titles that become available after that date. CSP publishers currently providing usage statistics to their existing sites will continue to provide access to them on those sites while they remain available. When those sites close, libraries will be able to gain access to the statistics for those sites by contacting either the publisher or JSTOR.
