Emeriti and visiting faculty have access to everything, both on campus and remote. Visitors may use designated guest computers, or they may request a temporary login from our Help Desk. Alumni do not have access, and while we do get inquiries about that once in a while, we don't have any plans to change this.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi Caroline
We have a specially negotiated set of resources for retired staff. They can access them both on and off campus. They can not use the main library lists of resources, the retired collection is linked to from the retired staff association web pages, and they have a particular set of permissions attached to their log in. There is a mix of IP and proxy server and Athens, depending on the provider.
We have something similar for tutors teaching our courses abroad, with a special sub web page.
Business school Alumni also have a very small set of specially negotiated and licensed resources.
The only other group that get access we call Consultants, who are here on a fixed contract to work on something specifically for the OU and that is academic related. They get access to all of our resources via a set of permission sets for a fixed length of time, and they must sign a copyright declaration which is counter signed by Faculty.
We do not give walk in access to electronic resources.
I hope that helps!

Subject: [lis-e-resources] access to electronic resources for retired faculty/staff, volunteer staff, etc
Dear colleagues (with apologies for cross-posting)
I'm looking for advice from colleagues in other university libraries:
What access do retired faculty/staff, volunteer staff, and other "affiliated" staff have to your electronic resources?
1. Do they have access to electronic resources in your library buildings and elsewhere on campus? If no, what is the reason? If yes, did you need to negotiate something special in your licences?
2. Do they have access to electronic resources remotely? If no, what is the reason? If yes, did you need to negotiate something special in your licences?
Thanks,
Caroline
