Research Assistant in Information Retrieval
This post offers the opportunity to work on the European Union (EU) funded
project PATHS. The project will create a system that acts as an interactive
tour guide through online Cultural Heritage collections, providing users
with personalised suggestions about items to look at and assistance in their
interpretation.
In this post you will develop novel interactive retrieval systems that will
support personalised information exploration and discovery in digital
libraries. They will make use of existing information retrieval technologies
or develop novel ones, as appropriate, and integrate them into the PATHS
system in collaboration with project partners. You will be involved in
developing user interfaces and functionality to support users in creating,
managing and sharing pathways or trails through information spaces.
Applicants should be qualified in Information Retrieval (or a related area)
or be expected to complete soon, or have equivalent experience. Strong
programming skills are essential, and experience of any of the following
areas is an advantage: Information Retrieval (IR) and Recommender Systems;
Adaptive IR; User Interface Design and Evaluation; and analysing search
logs.
