The Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences (FALW) offers a range of Bachelor
and Master programmes. Research at the faculty focuses on the fields of
the life sciences, health sciences, environmental sciences and earth

*Tasks*
FALW has a fully equipped micro-analysis lab, which includes a JEOL
JXA-8800 Electron Microprobe (EMP) and a Pananlytical MagiXPro XRF. We
are looking for an experienced microprobe user to manage the day-to-day
running of these machines, and to supervise challenging research and
teaching projects that apply these analytical techniques to problems in
a diverse range of fields, including but not limited to: Igneous,
Metamorphic and Sedimentary Petrology; Experimental Petrology;
Palaeoclimatology, Archaeology; and Planetary Materials. The position
will involve working with FALW staff, postdocs, PhD students and
undergraduates, as well as external scientific and commercial users.
*Requirements*
The successful applicant will have a research background in Earth
Science, Material Science or Chemical Engineering and several years of
proven experience using EMP. Experience with XRF is highly desirable. A
PhD and experience in Earth Science is preferred and expertise in using
JEOL microprobes in particular, is an advantage. The successful
applicant should also have the ability to supervise student research,
utilising both the EMP and the XRF, and will be encouraged to develop
independent research that utilises these machines. Excellent oral and
written communication skills as well as management skills are required.

The vacancy is for an immediate, full-time appointment. After
satisfactory evaluation at the end of year one, the initial appointment

*Salary*
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for
academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of
€ 2.977,- gross per month up to a maximum of € 3.755,- gross per month
(salary scale 10) based on a fulltime employment.
