the work of Bruno Latour in terms of a 'cascades of inscriptions' (Latour
and Woolgar, Laboratory Life) and 'immutable mobiles' (in Drawing
Things Together) and Steven Shapin's 'virtual witnessing' (Shapin and
Schaffer, Leviathan and the Air-pump).
