Hello,
The unicode (so in this case umlaut) problem is something we are looking
into but it is not (or should not be!) a 2.2-specific problem but would
(well, I think so anyway) also be a problem in 2.1.
And I'm not sure what you mean by "saved with its binary data". Do you
mean that you had spectra opened? Did the file names for those have
unicode characters in them? If so, that would have caused the same kind
of problem as above.
If you get a popup that says the project is invalid then there ought to be
an error message on the console and if you copy and paste that into an
email that will help us figure out what is what. But again, this binary
data issue (whether I have understood what it is or not) ought not to be
2.2-specific (but it might be, dependent on the error message!).
We would generally recommend people stick with 2.1 for now, unless there
is something in 2.2 you want to use, because of the issue you had with
going back to 2.1 having used 2.2. It's sort of like if you use Microsoft
Word version N and then install N+1 and then try and go back to version N.
In general, version N will not open version N+1 documents.
Unfortunately, that .ccpn/... file is common between projects, so once it
has been saved in 2.2 it will no longer open in 2.1 unless you make that
edit. Rasmus is going to add "forward compatibility" which will make this
issue go away.
Other than that issue, I would say that 2.2 should not really be much
different from 2.1, so should not be more or less stable / workable.
We've added a few bits of functionality but not much (so far).
