Hi Melanie,
This is an excellent idea, but do we need the permission of the care leaver before this can occur??

Hi All,
What would be easier is to get Leaving Care services to provide this information to a central hub such as UCAS, since we have this information to hand as a matter of course.

Hi,
Our Care Leavers identified the tick box (and lack of guidance notes) as an issue. We liaised with FBT and they managed to get UCAS to add some additional info. Unfortunately, it seems like all applicants aren't reading them.
I have a lot "Care Leavers" who worked in Care Homes (for the elderly)???
Kindest regards
Roger

Hi Kirsteen
My first thought is to contact Preeti Dhillon at the Frank Buttle Trust.
She will be able to give you an average figure based on the HEIs who hold the Quality Mark and have submitted monitoring returns detailing their care population. I've spoken to her and she is expecting your

Secondly, I think your query forms part of a wider issue of identification through the UCAS tick box.
I'd be interested in gathering informal evidence through this group from other HEIs who face a similar issue in clarifying their care leaver population and any implications this may have on your staffing time, resources and future availability of bursaries etc. Perhaps the answer could be a clearer statement on the UCAS form? I'd be interested in your thoughts.
Kind regards
Sarah

Hi
I was wondering if people would be willing to share some basic information regarding the number of care leavers they have registered with them this year.
We have had a big year with over 100 new students indicating they are a care leaver. We often find some of these have ticked the box by accident, so need to do some preliminary work checking this is accurate and also need to compile numbers on those care leavers who are staying to continue their studies with us. I was just interested to get an idea of how many other care leavers are in HEI. The case used to be that less than 1% of care leavers reached higher education.
